Job Purpose

Wires lead/acid batteries for charging.  Checks specific gravity and temperature readings to make adjustments during the formation process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive batteries from Bonding, fill with appropriate specific gravity acid, install plugs and move batteries to Charging area.
  • Wire batteries with jumpers or bar-up with connecting bars per customer specification.
  • Fill tubs with water; take initial specific gravity reading and every four hours during charging.  Check voltages, acid temperature and water temperatures regularly on one battery in each tub.  Make adjustments as needed until the formation schedule is complete.
  • Remove cables and rinse off batteries.  Enter required information into database.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area throughout the shift and clean areas at end of shift.  Perform other work as assigned by the supervisor.  Assist other members of the crew as required.  Must be able to understand and follow all work instructions.
