Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing
Location: Oakland, CA 94607
Position: Full-Time, Immediate Start, Ongoing into Next Year

Pay Rate: Starting at $50.00/hr

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our team on an itinerant basis. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students from PreK to 5th grade in various schools across Oakland. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to support a diverse group of students with a variety of hearing needs while driving between schools and providing both direct and consultative services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services for students with hearing impairments in PreK-5th grade at multiple schools around Oakland.

  • Conduct assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations (TRIs) as part of the caseload.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address the needs of students with hearing loss.

  • Work itinerantly between multiple school sites, requiring regular driving between locations.

  • Offer strategies and support to school teams to create an inclusive environment for students with hearing impairments.

  • Monitor student progress and adjust services as needed to ensure optimal educational outcomes.

  • Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and other relevant school functions as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.

  • Valid California teaching credential in Deaf & Hard of Hearing (or equivalent).

  • Experience working with students from PreK to 5th grade, especially in an itinerant role, is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of hearing loss, communication methods, and strategies for supporting students with hearing impairments.

  • Ability to conduct assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while traveling between multiple school sites.

  • Reliable transportation and a valid drivers license are required.
