As an Application Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the successful application of Potter Fire Safety products by providing technical expertise, system design guidance, and product support throughout the project lifecycle. Our team is looking for someone who enjoys collaborating across engineering, sales, and customer teams, and is driven to ensure solutions are both technically sound and aligned with real-world needs. In this role, you will help bridge the gap between concept and implementation—guiding fire alarm system designs to meet NFPA codes, industry standards, and customer requirements, while leveraging your knowledge of system configuration, fire detection technologies, and integrated life-safety solutions. What You’ll Do Serve as a subject matter expert on fire alarm systems (hardware and software) providing technical support to help new customers with design application, BOM conversions, and drawing completion. Ensure new dealers and distributors are prepared and proficient with Potter products and solutions. Establish an onboarding roadmap for tracking the process and reporting progress to RSM’s and Sales Leadership. Provide technically focused installation instructions for Potter hardware, software, panels, and devices. Collaborate with customers and Potter Engineering to design fire alarm and smoke control systems that meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. Assist customers with existing BOM conversions, take-offs, and system design that encourages Potter product usage. Review existing technical data library and update. When necessary, create technical documentation, including system manuals, installation guides, battery calculation tools, and application notes. Provide technical oversight for customers encountering complex issues during installation, start-up/commissioning, and testing of Potter systems. Conduct in-person technical demonstrations and technical specification reviews for existing and prospective large customers. QualificationsWhat You Bring Experience That Drives Success Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent technical experience). Proven experience (5+ years) working with fire alarm systems or related technologies. Strong understanding of fire alarm codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, UL). Proficiency in CAD software for system design (AutoCAD, Revit).  Key Strengths & Skills Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary. Basic understanding of networking and wireless communication protocols. Above average customer service orientation and delivery. The role will require up to 50% travel. The expected schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, but an occasional shift in hours may be necessary to accommodate project schedules.
