Reporting to BPL’s Energy Manager, the Energy Analyst will assist in reviewing and analyzing the agency’s energy use and benchmarking data. The Energy Analyst should be a creative thinker, with strong data analysis skills, an understanding of energy systems engineering and economic analysis, and excellent written and oral communications skills.  This is a hands-on position requiring active support of projects in the field involving: building automation systems, HVAC re-tuning and replacement, solar photovoltaics, LED lighting upgrades, demand response/load management, and stakeholder outreach.  The Analyst will help develop and deliver official energy reports and presentations, including measurement and verification studies and cost/benefit analyses.  The Energy Analyst will provide engineering-level analysis and support for competitive energy project proposals and grant applications.
Working with DCAS Energy Management (DEM), the Energy Analyst will provide analytic support in the management of utility billing information on citywide databases; will work to identify and correct any data anomalies; participate in the annual data verification exercise for the City’s benchmarking efforts; and prepare monthly reports on energy usage at BPL
The Energy Analyst will work with DEM, BPL Agency Management, and individual facilities to compile and analyze data for program development and performance measurements, including the BPL Energy Master Plan
This is a non-union, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000.
ResponsibilitiesÂ
Audit and analyze facility data and energy bills, including utility rates or tariffs, for benchmarking purposes.
Support energy project development and field implementation, including contractor procurement, oversight and budget management.
Assist with energy-efficient operations using building automation systems and sensor deployment in the field.
Provide high level technical calculations for capital and/or expense funding opportunities.
Work closely with DEM to correct any incorrect account information and estimated billings.
Quantify and adjust energy consumption data to establish baselines for energy use or need, and for measurement and verification (M&V) purposes.Â
Provide monthly reports on energy trends that identify opportunities and anomalies.
Determine patterns of building use to show annual or monthly needs for heating, cooling, lighting, or other energy needs for annual agency energy budget.
Support peak load management/demand response program with data analysis and performance trends to participating facilities.
Assist the team with the creative and technical thinking to appropriately shape Agency energy planning.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology or the physical sciences with emphasis on energy systems and/or facilities management. or Bachelor’s degree in other major plus a minimum of two years of professional experience in quantitative energy analysis. An advanced degree in engineering / urban planning / energy policy or a related field is a plus;
A valid NYS driver’s license with a clean record. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Experience analyzing and presenting utility/energy information.Â
Experience with solar photovoltaics.
Experience with HVAC design and building automation systems.
Experience auditing commercial or institutional energy bills.
Knowledge of commercial and industrial utility billing.Â
Knowledge of energy market dynamics.Â
Knowledge of new and emerging trends in the area of energy efficiency.Â
Aptitude for energy conversion calculations including weather normalization.
Ability to analyze and present complex data sets using the City’s databases, Microsoft Excel and Power Point. Proficiency with Excel is a must.  Proficiency with AutoCAD is desirable.
Knowledge of database management on Microsoft Access and integrated workflow management systems.Â
Strong writing, organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Â
Must be comfortable in boiler, mechanical rooms and on rooftops.
