The Product Owner will own the enterprise payments strategy across all commerce channels for a large, complex retail organization. The role requires deep experience operating at scale and partnering across technology, operations, finance, security, and external vendors to define and execute a modern, resilient payments ecosystem.
This is an on site position located in Springfield, MO.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Define and own the end-to-end payments strategy across in-store, mobile, and digital commerce platforms
- Set product strategy across all layers of the payments stack, from customer-facing hardware through back-end processing and settlement
- Lead RFPs and vendor evaluations for:
- Point of Interaction (POI) and PIN Entry Device (PED) hardware, with a strong emphasis on mobility and flexible store execution
- Payment gateways and semi-integrated middleware solutions
- Payment processors and acquiring partners
- Establish a long-term payments roadmap that balances near-term business needs with future-ready capabilities such as new tender types, evolving security standards, and scalable global expansion
- Partner closely with engineering, architecture, store operations, finance, legal, and security teams to ensure alignment on strategy, priorities, and execution
- Drive standardization and simplification where possible while supporting the realities of a large, highly variable store fleet
- Ensure compliance with PCI, regulatory requirements, and internal risk standards across all payment solutions

- Plans, identifies, monitors, analyzes, and prioritizes risks (threats and opportunities), creates response plans, and manages the risk if it occurs.
- Identifies, verifies, and manages changes to the scope of the project or program, utilizing the most appropriate approach.
- Identifies appropriate measures for assessing solution performance and limitations, validates with key stakeholders, and collects appropriate performance measures to assess overall solution performance to recommend specific actions to increase solution value.
- Identifies, tracks, and enables the achievement of the planned benefits and intended outcomes of a program and associated projects.
- Develops an effective change strategy based on gap analyses and enterprise readiness assessment results, including transitions states and release plans.
Preferred
- Proven experience owning or leading payments platforms or payment strategy at a large retailer or Fortune-scale enterprise
- Hands-on experience with enterprise payment ecosystems, including hardware, gateways, processors, and vendor management
- Demonstrated success leading RFPs, negotiating with vendors, and making build vs. buy decisions at scale
- Strong strategic mindset paired with the ability to operate in the details when needed
- Experience building and communicating multi-year product roadmaps for complex, cross-functional platforms
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, legacy systems, and large organizational complexity
Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level
Experience: Experienced practitioner able to deal with the majority of situations and to advise others (3 to 6 years)
Managerial Experience: Experience supervising and directing team members and utilizing resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes (1 to 3 years)
