PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

In accordance with the established mission, policies, and procedures of 1800Flowers and/or specific instructions from the QA Manager the QA Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the facility is in compliance with all Local, State, Federal laws with regards to a food production environment. This is one of the primary positions that are responsible for food safety and continuous improvement and quality.

 

Coverage

In the absence of the Quality Assurance Supervisor, all Food Safety and Quality responsibilities will fall to the Quality Assurance Manager. The Quality Assurance Manager may delegate responsibilities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow & enforce all internal Quality and Food Safety requirements. Assure at all times that the facility is in compliance with Federal, State, and GMP standards throughout the company.
  • Act as SQF Practitioner, PCQI and as a member of the Food Safety and Quality Team
  • Hire, train, and supervise QA staff.
  • Ensure that all required training is completed, including that required for direct reports. Assist in development and implementation of training program for associates for issues related to QA. Basic points include standards, GMP overview, QA policy and regulations.
  • Assume control of the daily operation of the SQF System and QMS processes as appropriate.
  • Identify and communicate potential quality and safety risks to the Quality Manager
  • Notify leadership team and document all irregularities in procedures as well as establish corrective actions.
  • Maintain HACCP program.
  • Manage programs or services as requested by the Quality Manager: environmental monitoring, pest control, ethylene monitoring, etc.
  • Oversee product recall/traceability program and implement mock recall/trace.
  • Assist with other audits as requested by the Quality Manager.
  • Daily or weekly communication with leadership to include overview of the week, issues relating to standards, QA compliance and training.
  • Develop close working relationships and communication with all areas to ensure daily and accurate record keeping. Weekly attendance at production meeting.
  • Process monitoring – Learn setup and correct operation of all equipment. Learn all product specifications and enforce. Monitor production processes and ensure conformance with all applicable requirements.
  • Meet or beat budget goals.
  • Assure quality of finished products through testing, visual examination, measurements, tasting, etc. Place a hold on out of spec products and alert supervisor.
  • Lead or assist with investigations, including data analysis and report writing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Complexity: Attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels are critical to this position.
  • Working Conditions: Most of the time will be spent in a production environment working with production machinery and various types of production equipment. Some of the time will be spent in an office environment working with various types of office equipment.
  • Physical Demands: While performing duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, use hands to finger, handle control, and to talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to bend and twist. The associate may be required to lift up to 30 on a consistent basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Safety/Hazards: This position requires the ability to understand and follow policy and procedures of safety rules and regulations
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • BS in Food Science or 3 to 5 years of experience in Quality
  • Previous food industry experience required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Basic Computer knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook

 

Scheduling Requirements

  • Minimum 40-hour work week; Monday-Friday or as arranged with the QA Manager.
  • Additional hours including weekends may be required during peak seasons.
