JOB SUMMARY (overview of job):  The Diagnostic Imaging Technologist Assistant I provides safe transfer and transport of patients who may include: infants, children, adolescents, adults and or elderly adults, to and from various areas throughout the facility in a timely manner. This position maintains transport equipment by ensuring its cleanliness and safe operating condition. This position assists technologists to facilitate care and maintain operational flow of unit and meets patient needs. This position assists in performance of imaging procedures at the direction of the imaging technologists.

Aptitudes: Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Works collaboratively with all care providers
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Is certified in CPR and able to perform if necessary
  • Transports patients who require single or multiple person transports with appropriate assistance using a wheelchair or gurney, along with accompanying equipment, following organizational and departmental policies
  • Transfers and/or assists DI staff in transferring patients to and from imaging equipment, gurneys and wheelchairs
  • Observes and/or reports unusual clinical signs and/or changes in patient condition immediately to technologists, nursing, and medical staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of safety related work behaviors to ensure safe job performance and the maintenance of a safe environment as an integral part of the quality of patient care services
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly work environment, including necessary supply/equipment movement between departments
  • Is knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control and universal precautions
  • Carries Vocera/communication tool to maintain contact at all times and responds to calls or chats in a timely and professional manner
  • Answers phone calls in assigned area and help coordinate add on exams
  • Maintains inventory by stocking/restocking areas as assigned
  • Maintains access to patient care space by cleaning patient care rooms for increased efficiency in room turnover
  • Assists technologist with room and equipment setup
  • Ability to promote and maintain good customer relations
  • Utilizes good body mechanics for safe transportation of patient and equipment
  • Ability to problem-solve using good communication and people skills
  • Assists the Diagnostic Imaging Technologists with patient care, film/image management and quality programs. 
  • Assists with ensuring patient wait times are monitored, explained and minimized.
  • Ability to consistently delight our customers with superior customer/patient satisfaction skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and as needed including but not limited to: checking oxygen tanks, obtaining patient vital signs, accompanying patients who need assistance, transporting samples to the lab 
  • Rotating holidays.
  • May be needed on nights or weekends to cover open shifts.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: The ability and knowledge to safely and ergonomically move equipment, patients and supplies required. The ability to use a telephone, Vocera, and computer keyboard required. Proficiency in reading and writing English. MRI Safety training required within 3 months of hire date.  Knows and upholds organizational values in all interactions with team members and customers. 

EDUCATION. High school graduate, HiSET or GED equivalent preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required

Aptitudes: Demonstrated knowledge and application of safety related work behaviors to ensure safe job performance and the maintenance of a safe environment as an integral part of the quality of patient care services. Demonstrated ability to receive and be open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with many ages, and different populations. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment. Demonstrated ability for follow through on tasks, job duties and assignments.
