About the Role
Under the direction of licensed pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians assist in preparing, distributing, and managing medications for inpatient and outpatient settings. Technicians play a vital role in ensuring accuracy, safety, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical care for patients from neonatal through geriatric populations.
Key Responsibilities
Technicians at all levels may perform responsibilities such as:
Preparing and dispensing medications under pharmacist supervision
Compounding sterile and non‑sterile products (depending on training and assignment)
Processing medication orders and outpatient prescriptions
Managing inventory, stocking pharmacy areas, and receiving shipments
Delivering medications to patient care areas
Using pharmacy dispensing systems and electronic medical record tools
Maintaining accuracy, safety, and compliance with pharmacy law and organizational policies
Communicating effectively with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff
Demonstrating excellent attention to detail, time management, and customer service skills
Physical job components include standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and repetitive hand use.
Position Levels and Requirements:
Pharmacy Technician I:
An entry‑level technician ready to begin a pharmacy career.
Requirements:Â
Licensed provisional Pharmacy Technician in the State of Montana
No prior schooling or certification required
Must obtain national pharmacy technician certification within 2 years of hire to continue employment
Pharmacy Technician II:Â
A nationally certified technician with foundational experience and strong operational skills.
Requirements:
Active certified Pharmacy Technician license in Montana
Completion of a national certification exam such as:
PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification
National Healthcare Association ExCPT
Or another board‑approved equivalent
Demonstrated competence in standard pharmacy technician duties
Pharmacy Technician III:
A certified technician with advanced training in specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
Requirements:
Active certified Pharmacy Technician license in Montana
