Seeking a Civil Engineering Project Engineer supporting roadway and highway design and transportation engineering projects.

 

THE ROLE

In this hands-on, civil engineering role focused on design execution, you will contribute directly to the development of roadway and transportation infrastructure, producing high-quality engineering work and supporting project delivery under the direction of project managers and senior staff. The primary project focus will be on supporting roadway projects, including highway and bridge design for DOT clients. These responsibilities include:
  • Support project managers in coordinating with clients to understand project scope and objectives.
  • Analyze survey data, traffic patterns, and other relevant data to optimize road design and ensure functionality and safety.
  • Provide technical input and support to junior engineers on project designs, drafting plans, drawings, and modeling according to project specifications.
  • Execute assigned project tasks and phases and deliver defined technical work products within assigned scopes.
  • Support the Engineer of Record in preparing design packages and documentation.
  • Develop detailed roadway design plans, models, and drawings using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Bentley), ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure that engineering designs comply with relevant DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Draft technical writing pieces such as Requests for Proposals, report writing, project specifications, and memorandums.
  • Provide construction administration services during the construction phase of the project.
  • Opportunity to progress toward Engineer of Record responsibilities with experience and licensure.

YOUR STRENGTHS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent ABET-accredited engineering program
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) professional designation required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or on track to obtain PE
  • Minimum of 4+ years of US-based experience in highway and roadway civil design engineering for federal and state projects
  • Experience coordinating design tasks or contributing to project phases within a team environment
  • Working knowledge of federal and state roadway regulations and processes
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Bentley  
  • Strong communicator both verbal and written
  • A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record is required for periodic travel
