The role you’ll contribute: Â
Assists at patient bedside for Fine Needle Aspirations. May prepare and processÂ
cytology specimens for staining and examination by pathologists. Operates,Â
maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation for safe routine operations. OrdersÂ
and maintains sufficient inventory of supplies in the section. FollowsÂ
appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing,Â
and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres toÂ
Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. May include transport ofÂ
hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storageÂ
area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handlingÂ
hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transportÂ
of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personalÂ
protective equipment. May receive and accession tissue samples into the labÂ
computer system, ensuring accuracy of paperwork. May process and prepare samplesÂ
for both send-out and in-house testing. Prepares cassettes, processes, embeds,Â
cuts tissues, and prepares slides. Performs immunohistochemical staining,Â
documents quality control, and maintains instrumentation and supplies. ConductsÂ
analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy,Â
routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping, andÂ
handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical, and body fluid specimens. May act asÂ
a preceptor for new employees and histology students/interns while providingÂ
leadership and mentoring to histotechnicians, histotechnologists, and laboratoryÂ
support staff. Files and maintains Histology and Cytology Blocks and slides.Â
Utilizes the lab computer system to accession and bill all sectionÂ
specimens. May manage tissue disposal and waste Â

Responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the laboratory. Â
Performs all basic histology functions in the preparation of tissue samples for examination, including embedding, cutting, staining, and frozen sections. Â
Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, and preparing slides for microscopic examination. Â
Participates in quality control, quality assurance, and training new staff. Â
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the lab in the absence of a Supervisor, ensuring adherence to clinical laboratory standards and regulations. Responsibilities include performing competency-validated proceduresÂ
ordered by appropriate medical staff and physicians, contributing to theÂ
accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment of patients.Â
Minimum Qualifications Required:Â
Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institutionOR education equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratorytraining program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (thistraining may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at leastthree months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR qualified and served as testing personnel on orÂ
before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024,Â
and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024. RequiredÂ
Work Experience:Â
