$30.33 - $42.47The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Provides patient care by performing all laboratory services required for assisted reproduction. Performs clinical embryology procedures, completes administrative tasks, and learns to perform micromanipulation procedures and advanced oocyte processing under the direction of the department and area leadership. Provides a critical role in the daily function of the IVF lab and participates in weekend and holiday rotations to ensure adequate clinical coverage throughout the year. Completes an apprenticeship that requires a significant proportion of on-the-job training and affords an opportunity to advance into higher-level roles once advanced IVF laboratory procedures are mastered.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Completes daily laboratory start-up and shutdown processes. Performs all routine embryology procedures that do not require micromanipulation skills or advanced oocyte processing, such as transvaginal oocyte retrieval (TVOR), egg stripping, fertilization checks, embryo assessments (cleavage-stage and blastocyst), embryo transfer, embryo thawing, and embryo vitrification.
- Creates In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)/Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) paperwork, maintains internal IVF lab QA databases, and reports IVF/FET cycle outcomes to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART). Documents IVF laboratory services rendered for charge capturing and monitors and responds to clinician and patient inquiries.
- Ensures all pre-procedure IVF lab planning is complete, including ordering pre-tested consumables, stocking the laboratory, gassing out dishes, aliquotting media, pH testing, labeling/verifying embryo culture dishes, and making embryo culture dishes.
- Learns to perform intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and trophectoderm biopsy.
- Learns proper protocols for vitrifying and warming oocytes.
- Performs cryopreserved sperm/oocyte/embryo inventory audits, discards, and donations. Reviews patient consent documents for accuracy and completeness before acting. Aids in coordinating specimen shipping between Strong Fertility Center, outside fertility clinics, and long-term storage at ReproTech, Ltd.
- Monitors liquid nitrogen storage tanks, responds to sensitive IVF laboratory equipment alarms, performs monthly alarm testing, and performs routine alarm maintenance. Aids in coordination of preventative maintenance and annual validation of IVF laboratory equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Technology, etc.) and 1 year of experience working in an IVF lab required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Prior knowledge of IVF laboratory start-up, shut down, and workflow required
- Ability to perform oocyte identification/pick-up, sperm preparation, conventional insemination, fertilization check, cleavage-stage assessment, blastocyst assessment, embryo thawing, and embryo vitrification required
- Demonstrates high integrity and professional demeanor required
- Demonstrates punctual and reliable work habits required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician licensure upon hire preferred
