DOT Delivery Driver

Position Overview
The DOT Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting goods to and from designated locations per dispatcher instructions, ensuring timely and safe deliveries. This position requires strict adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies, along with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Operate trucks to transport goods between locations as directed by the dispatcher, adhering to scheduled routes and delivery times.
- Load and unload equipment and goods safely.
- Use navigation tools or logistics systems to identify the most efficient route and avoid delays from traffic or construction.
- Accurately log deliveries, obtain signatures when needed, and promptly report any issues or delays to the supervisor.
- Meet promised delivery windows to maintain customer trust and repeat business.
- Work collaboratively with the supervisor, co-workers and other team members to ensure smooth operations and resolve issues that arise during deliveries.
- Foster positive relationships with customers by providing courteous and efficient service.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and submit required documentation promptly and accurately.
Vehicle & Travel Safety
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness.
- Ensure loads are properly secured at all times.
- Maintain the company vehicle and ensure routine maintenance is completed; coordinate with a supervisor for any necessary repairs.
- Obey all posted speed limits, federal laws and local ordinances, and drive at speeds that ensure safe operation of the truck.
- Operate vehicles safely and responsibly by driving defensively, avoiding distractions and following all traffic laws and company safety protocols.
- Keep windshields, mirrors and windows clear to ensure good visibility while driving.
- Submit the vehicle mileage report by the 1st of each month.
DOT Compliance
- Understand all DOT regulations pertaining to the driver and the vehicle/trailer being used.
- Maintain Electronic Driving Logs (EDL) as instructed.
- Maintain a current DOT medical card.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role preferred.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with GPS devices and navigation apps.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and a driving record that qualifies as “insurable” by the company's insurance carrier. MVR reviews may be conducted at any time.
- Must be at least 21 years of age to drive on behalf of B&C.
- Able to work 40 hours per week (excluding holidays and PTO) on a regular basis.
- Available to work additional hours as needed; overtime is anticipated, and hours may include evenings, weekends and on-call rotations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy components up to 50 lbs.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, crouch or kneel for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Significant time on the road making deliveries and pickups.
- When not driving, work is performed indoors in a warehouse environment with exposure to mechanical, electrical and environmental hazards and varying temperatures.
- Exposure to various weather conditions.
- Extensive travel is required, including out-of-town and overnight assignments.
- A company vehicle is provided for work assignments.
