Summary/Objective
The Wellness, Sports and Recreation Lead will assist in managing all aspects of the Wellness Center, Sports and Recreation programming and/or leagues depending on branch needs.Â

Essential Functions
- Take initiative to promote Personal Training and all Wellness programs and classes during member interactions. Â
- Audit Personal Training sessions weekly to ensure accurate redemptions.
- Maintain frontline hours (personal training, wellness coaching or group fitness) as outlined by department director.Â
- Help maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment on the Wellness floorÂ
- Personal Training: Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1-hour personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities.Â
- Conduct fitness evaluations and member orientationsÂ
- Must attend scheduled Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, and Group Exercise meetings and participates in appropriate workshops/certifications.Â
- Assist with onboarding wellness, sports, and recreation league staff.
- Assist with Wellness Coach scheduling.
- Assist with Wellness and Gym space rental scheduling when Membership receives rental requests.
- Assist in event planning.
- Build authentic, supportive relationships with members and helps them connect to others and to the Y community.
- May lead group exercise classes.Â
- May assist in coordinating fee-based Wellness programs including scheduling with trainers and submitting program information for operational and marketing needs.
- May provide support for sports programming and recreation leagues including as referee and/or umpire as needed (Duluth YMCA branch).
- May act as a Leader on Duty when other lead staff is not in office. This includes but is not limited to: Lead staff person responding to emergency and behavioral situations, Praesidium building walk-throughs.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for training and maintaining the schedule of wellness coaches.Â
Work Environment
This position operates in a typical fitness and gym center areas. The employee will spend time assisting the Healthy Living Director and wellness department.Â

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time (25-28 hrs/week) or full-time (40hrs/week) position based on branch needs. The center is open seven days a week, however this position’s hours will depend on the department’s needs including evenings and weekends.
Travel
No travel outside the Duluth area is expected for this position
Required Education and Experience
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED. Training can be provided upon hire, and must be obtained within 60 days. Higher levels of certification are accepted.Â
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; detail-oriented.
- Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Previous customer service; ability to multi-task.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Basic computer proficiency (eg. Excel, Word, Point of Sales, Marketing software).
Preferred Education and Experience
- Acquired or currently working towards a degree in fields pertaining to coaching, sports management, or health and wellness.
- Â National certification in personal training and/or group exercise (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, etc.).
- Managed Sports & Rec and/or other community-based programming for at least a year.
- At least 1 year of experience in the fitness, sports, or recreation industry. General understanding of fitness equipment is neededÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation , or related field.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a background check.
