Definition of Position: 

Responsible for directing all aspects of the Good Shepherd Health Care System’s Children Center.  Prepares and submits all financial reports required in a timely manner.  Leads Center staff in accomplishing Center goals.  Ensures compliance with all state rules and regulations, and applicable hospital policies.  Coordinates and promotes childcare, learning, and development.  Supervises Center staff in providing nurturing instruction and care for children.


Responsibilities

  • Directly supervising 5 to 40 employees
  • Interviewing and hiring of teaching staff
  • Financial management of department
  • Maintaining records
  • Preparing and submitting budget
  • Oversee and coordinate Children Center billing and receivables
  • Policy development
  • Staff orientation and training
  • Purchasing of any and all equipment and materials as needed
  • Supervising maintenance of building and grounds in cooperation with maintenance department
  • Supervising meal planning and preparation in cooperation with dietary department
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

 

Required: Associate degree in Elementary Education or Child Development

 

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or Child Development   

 

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

 

Required:

    • Register with the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to employment and have a minimum of a conditional CBR number, First Aid & CPR Certification.
    • Have at least the qualifications in 1 or 2:

1.  At least Step 9 in the Oregon Registry.

 

OR

 

2. Have verifiable knowledge of management and supervision of adults, evidenced by a combination of professional references, education, experience or training as follows:

 

(A) 7 credit hours in business administration or management at a college or university, OR

(B) 70 training hours in program management with an emphasis on the following subjects: financial management and budgeting; policy development; staff management, evaluation and training; record keeping, OR

(C) 600 hours of documented experience where there was an opportunity to participate in the following activities: financial management and budgeting; policy development; record keeping; staff management, evaluation and training 

 

AND

 

Have verifiable knowledge of child development for the primary ages served in the center, evidenced by a combination of professional references, education, experience or training as follows:

 

(A) 7 quarter credit hours at a college or university in two of the following Core Knowledge Categories (CKC): Human Growth and Development (HGD), Learning Environments and Curriculum (LEC), Understanding and Guiding Behavior (UGB), Special Needs (SN) or Observation and Assessment (OA), OR

(B) 70 community-based training clock hours in two of the following: Core Knowledge Categories (CKC): Human Growth and Development (HGD), Learning Environments and Curriculum (LEC), Understanding and Guiding Behavior (UGB), Special Needs (SN), Observation and Assessment (OA), relevant to ages of the children served in the center, OR

(C) 600 additional hours of qualifying teaching experience with children the same age as those in the center

 

Experience

 

Required: Must meet Oregon State qualifications for Director, namely:  Be at least 21 years of age and have at least one year of training and/or experience in management and supervision

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting light office items (up to 25 pounds). Visual acuity to view computer screens and read detailed financial documents. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. May be required to move throughout the healthcare facility, including administrative and clinical areas.

 

Working Conditions:

This position operates in a professional office setting within a healthcare facility. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The office environment is climate-controlled, well-lit, and ergonomically designed for extended computer work. While this role is primarily office-based and does not involve direct patient care, the employee may occasionally be present in clinical areas or interact with staff working in clinical environments. As such, there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases. The organization provides appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed to ensure safety.
