Overview

Employer paid benefits - Medical, Dental, and Vision. 

 

Wage Compensation - Min: $ 24.21  Max: $ 35.04

 

Primary purpose is to provide translation and interpreter services, both written and oral to Spanish speaking patients, their families, and staff throughout Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS).   When not interpreting, the incumbent will perform other duties in the clinic as assigned including clerical tasks, transporting and others as needed. 


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Represents GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties for patients/families, physicians, visitors and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct.

Maintains a constant awareness of communication issues in providing care at GSHCS and demonstrates this in decisions related to patient care and job performance. Maintains a thorough knowledge of patient confidentiality, and exercises judgment and genuine concern for patient’s ability to communicate effectively with medical provider. Confirms patient understanding by having them repeat back instructions.  Follows health care system principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates that knowledge in assisting patients within GSHCS policies and procedures.  Complies with adopted GSHCS and department policies and procedures.

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

                Required: High school diploma or GED. Must be provided upon hire. 

                Preferred: Associates degree and/or technical training as an interpreter.               

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Qualified Health Care Interpreter (OHA) within 6 months of hire

                Preferred: Qualified or Certified Health Care Interpreter (OHA)

Experience

Preferred: One year or more in a health care or human services setting. Knowledge of medical terminology and interpreting and translating skills desired.

Other:

  • Must demonstrate a fluency in the Spanish and English languages.
  • Must also have excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong medical terminology background desired.
  • Knowledge of computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of filing procedures and recording documentation.

 

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting light office items (up to 25 pounds). Visual acuity to view computer screens and read detailed financial documents. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. May be required to move throughout the healthcare facility, including administrative and clinical areas.

Working Conditions:

This position operates in a professional office setting within a healthcare facility. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The office environment is climate-controlled, well-lit, and ergonomically designed for extended computer work. While this role is primarily office-based and does not involve direct patient care, the employee may occasionally be present in clinical areas or interact with staff working in clinical environments. As such, there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases. The organization provides appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed to ensure safety.

40 Hours USD $24.21/Hr. USD $35.04/Hr. 01-8254 Language Access Day
