This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Construction Inspector for our office located in the Herndon, VA area, to provide inspection services on a rail Major Crossing from Alexandria, VA to Washington, D.C. 

 

Your Impact

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications including roadway, bridge, paving, drainage, electrical, ITS to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, standards and codes
  • Ability to interpret roadway and bridge plans, building plans, specifications, and contracts
  • Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance for materials testing activities and/or conduct routine field tests on construction materials such as slump test, air content test, and compaction tests 
  • Keeps detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress.
  • Measure and record material placed for periodic contractor payments
  • Conduct “receiving inspections” when material is delivered to the Project to verify that the materials received by the Contractor are accompanied by documentation noted by the source of supply and are in conformance with the Contract Documents,
  • Creates/maintains daily inspection reports and project documentation and/or logs that describe number of employees on a job site, amount of work performed and materials used, weather conditions, accidents on the job site and equipment use.
  • Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, Procore, or Primavera Contract Manager, etc.
     Recognizes construction problems and applies standard techniques and procedures to solve the problem
  • May recommend field changes to drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work as a team member without close supervision
  • Maintains daily contact with client and contractors to discuss construction activities
  • May attend construction meetings with client and contractors.
  • Work in various weather conditions and terrains and will be available nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Who You Are 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate
  • 11 years of experience in inspection or highway and/or building construction
  • Osha 10 certification
  • Soils & Aggregate certification
  • ACI certification
  • Asphalt 1 & 2 certification
  • Paving certification 
  • Familiarity with Trimble PMIS system
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with WSP USA Inc. Human Resources policy
  • Proficient in math and English and possess very good written and verbal communication skills
  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment; read and interpret roadway plans and   contract specifications; maintain detailed records, and communicate effectively with agency, contractor personnel and the public.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license required and must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
  • Dependable transportation is required. 
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
     Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with VDOT and/or Locality recommended.  
  • Bridge inspection experience  
  • Active construction management Certifications (or ability to acquire) including Concrete, Asphalt, Fall protection and confined space training, OSHA Safety, Work Zone Traffic Control (intermediate level) and flagger certification, DEQ Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection and DEQ Stormwater.
  • Other specialty certifications may include WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE, and CMIT (Construction manager in training) are a plus.
  • Structural Class 1 Rail construction/inspection experience
