Bowman has an opportunity for a Senior LiDAR Technician to join our team remotely (or in one of our offices if desired).

Purpose

Leads and manages LiDAR data processing workflows for large-scale geospatial projects, ensuring the delivery of accurate, high-quality datasets on schedule and within budget. This role combines advanced technical expertise with client coordination, and continuous improvement of geospatial processes and technologies.



Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a mid-sized LiDAR processing team, fostering accountability and a culture of quality.
  • Provide technical leadership, including troubleshooting complex LiDAR processing challenges.
  • Assign tasks, monitor team performance, and ensure adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Establish and reinforce standards for QA/QC processes and deliverable quality.

 

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and survey teams to align LiDAR deliverables with project objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding project status, technical requirements, and deliverables.
  • Support business development efforts by assisting with proposals, scope development, and pricing.
  • Document workflows, maintain processing logs, and contribute to the consistency of operational procedures.
  • Promote innovation by identifying and implementing process improvements and automation strategies.

 

Do the Work

  • Process and manage LiDAR datasets using MicroStation CONNECT (or 2025) with TerraScan and TerraModeler.
  • Perform advanced point cloud classification, feature extraction, and surface modeling.
  • Conduct rigorous QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with client specifications.
  • Utilize tools such as Global Mapper and Google Earth for data visualization, validation, and integration.
  • Prepare and merge datasets for PLS-CADD deliverables to support engineering design workflows.
  • Ensure proper handling of coordinate systems, projections, and geospatial data standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, and processing procedures.
  • Explore and apply AI-driven tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot) to optimize workflows and improve efficiency.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and workflow management.


Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s degree or technical courses preferred.
  • Five or more (5+) years of experience in LiDAR data processing and geospatial workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing production environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency in MicroStation CONNECT (or 2025) with TerraScan and TerraModeler.
  • Working knowledge of Global Mapper and Google Earth.
  • Intermediate proficiency in PLS-CADD and ability to produce integrated deliverables.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and geospatial data standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, VBA) preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot preferred.
  • Experience with utility or transmission line projects preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
