Job Title: Senior Technical Writer

Location: Hybrid - Herndon, VA or Salt Lake City, UT or Richardson, TX

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to lead the development of high-quality documentation for our cybersecurity product portfolio. This role will be responsible for producing clear, accurate, and user-focused technical content including API documentation, administrator guides, design guides, and end-user documentation.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience with structured authoring frameworks, documentation pipelines, and Agile development environments. This individual will also play a key role in designing and maintaining scalable documentation systems using Docbook XML/DITA, while supporting automated publishing. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in structured authoring (XML/DITA), documentation automation pipelines, and Agile development environments.

This role also contributes to evolving our documentation platform through AI-assisted documentation workflows and knowledge delivery systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead technical writer for cybersecurity products, owning documentation strategy and execution.

  • Create and maintain API documentation, administrator guides, design guides, and end-user documentation.

  • Design, implement, and maintain structured content systems using Markdown, Docbook XML, and DITA.

  • Develop and manage automated documentation publishing pipelines using tools such as Git and Jenkins.

  • Write and maintain XSLT scripts to transform and publish structured documentation outputs.

  • Collaborate with software engineering, product management, and QA teams to gather technical information and ensure accuracy.

  • Align documentation deliverables with Agile development cycles and ensure timely releases.

  • Establish documentation standards, templates, and best practices to improve consistency and scalability.

  • Review and edit documentation produced by other contributors to ensure quality and clarity.

  • Apply appropriate markings to documentation, including CUI, ITAR, EAR, and proprietary content.

AI-Enabled Documentation:

  • Leverage AI-assisted documentation tools to improve content development efficiency and consistency.

  • Use generative AI to assist with drafting, summarizing, and refining technical documentation while maintaining editorial accuracy.

  • Structure documentation content to support AI-powered knowledge retrieval systems.

  • Create editorial guidelines for AI-assisted writing.

  • Implement human validation processes to ensure AI-generated content meets technical accuracy and documentation quality standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional experience in technical writing for software or cybersecurity products.

  • Proven experience producing technical product documentation.

  • Strong expertise with XML-based structured authoring, particularly DITA.

  • Proficiency in Markdown, including contributing to developer design documentation and API documentation that integrates with Git-based workflows.

  • Experience developing and maintaining documentation build and publishing pipelines using Git and Jenkins.

  • Proficiency in XSLT scripting for documentation transformation and publishing.

  • Demonstrated success working in Agile development environments with frequent release cycles.

  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation.

  • Knowledge of documentation tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, MadCap Flare, or similar structured authoring tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NCDSMO and RTB documentation practices, including assembling complete documentation packages for LBSA submissions.

  • Experience marking and managing sensitive and export-controlled documentation, including CUI, ITAR, EAR, and proprietary content.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:

$116,800.00-171,499.00 USD

The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs. In addition to a base salary and bonus plans, Everfox offers a generous benefits package including flexible PTO, a 401k match, and contribution to healthcare coverages.
