This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Reporting to the SVP, HR & CHRO, the Sr Director of Benefits will take a broad, strategic and hands-on approach to managing robust benefits programs that are intended to meet the diverse needs of our workforce.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design, delivery and administration of self-funded domestic and international benefit plans to include medical, pharmacy, dental, life and disability programs
  • Ensures compliance (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA and other privacy regulations), leads the preparation of appropriate documents and filings as required (i.e. 5500s, SPDs, Annual notices, etc.) and reviews and maintains benefit plan documents (SPDs, Summary of Coverage, etc.)
  • Reviews vendor contracts to ensure effective and appropriate terms are in place
  • Leads key benefits initiatives and process enhancements, serving as key escalation point for complex benefit plan issues
  • Oversees benefit communication efforts to effectively convey the value and significance
  • Collaborates with and builds strong relationships with all vendor contacts, outside benefits consultants, auditors and brokers and serves as key liaison with internal stakeholders
  • Closely monitors vendor performance through measurement and regular check-ins; develops a deep understanding of contract documents to ensure compliance
  • Continually evaluates existing programs using competitive data, industry trends and cost analysis; performs market benchmarking to ensure competitiveness of plan designs; makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements

Education and Experience:

  • 12+ years of progressively more responsible experience with broad spectrum of domestic and international Benefit Programs that includes hands-on experience reviewing contracts for self-funded plans including pharmacy plans
  • Vendor experience, clinical experience, and/or CEBS certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least four years' supervisory experience

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of self-funded plans
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer proficiency and technical competence with Microsoft products, HRIS systems and Benefits databases
  • Ability to develop, understand and evaluate benefit proposals (RFPs)
  • Knowledge of key benefits contract language
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements
  • Excellent project management and time management skills to be able to balance multiple projects and shifting priorities

The pay range is $199,100 - $269,300.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
