Smith Ironworks is a professional steel fabrication company with a variety of products to fit all project needs. Â We are looking for motivated full-time regular Field Welders to join our team. Â You will be responsible for welding on structural iron, steel erection, and completing the tasks in a safe, timely, quality manner.Â
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Careful initial planning of the job to be carried out, reading and following erection drawings/plans.
- Using cranes to lift and guide individual steel components into position.
- Knowledge on crane signals
- Accurately aligning and leveling each steel component into place before bolting and welding them into fixed positions
- Using mobile elevated work platforms, ladders, lifts as the structure gains height, to access sections off the ground. Forklift/Boom Lift certifications are a     plus
- Laying metal decking, and installing safety railing as the structure is built up
- Health and safety is very important, so strict adherence to OSHA guidelines are a must and to be followed at all times.
- Regular use of a variety of both hand-held and motorized tools and machinery is required.Â
- Standing for extending periods of time is common.Â
- Lifting of up to 50 pounds is required.Â
- Lays-out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, protractor, and ruler.Â
- Tack welds or welds components and assemblies using GTAW or GMAW techniques.Â
- Inspects components prior to assembly, making sure they comply with manufacturing blueprintsÂ
- Cuts workpiece, using powered die grinders, hand grinders and/or hand shears.Â
- Be able to weld in multiple positions.Â
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.Â
- Equipment Maintenance, perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.Â
- Displays a basic mechanical aptitude. Familiar with equipment function and servicing requirements. Able to perform preventive maintenance as assigned.

Required
- High school diploma/GED requiredÂ
- MIG, TIG, or Stick welding experience.Â
- Minimum of 1-year experience in fabrication.Â
- Must be able to read blueprints/plansÂ
- Knowledge of reading erection drawings/plans
- 2+ years’ experience as a Structural Steel / Misc. Erector
- Welding certification: NR-232 Certified Welder, AWS-D1.1 Certified Welder- 3G/4GÂ
- Driver’s License
Minimum experience:Â
- Welding: 5 years
- Ironworker/Erector: 5 years (Preferred)
- Blueprint/Plan Reading: 2 years
- Structural Welding: 5 years (Preferred)
Compensation Notice:
Please note that this position involves both shop and field welding assignments.
- Shop Work: Hours worked in the shop will be paid between the hourly rate listed.
- Field Work: Hours worked in the field will be paid at an additional $3.00 per hour.
