The Laundry Aide may also mend when requested, and will clean assigned areas on designated days.   Essential Job Functions: Operates commercial washers and dryers Uses laundry equipment and chemicals correctly Fills chemicals on automatic machine dispensers when needed Uses appropriate amounts of chemicals or cleaners, including detergent and bleach Cleans machines and empties dryer vents regularly (twice daily) Checks chemicals for machines daily as well as record water temps Advises supervisor of machinery needing repairs Washes and dries clothing Selects appropriate water and drying temperatures for fabric type Washes clothes according to nurses’ orders for residents with special needs, such as skin conditions Pre-treats, spot-cleans or soaks clothing when necessary Transfers clothing from washer into dryer Picks up and sorts laundry Picks up laundry from residents Sorts laundry according to color, type of material, and desired water temperature Folds or hangs laundry and delivers to residents Folds or hangs clothing and places clothing on delivering cart according to departmental identification system Delivers clothing to the appropriate place Maintains neat and organized work area Keeps work area clean and orderly Must clean arts and crafts room, stairs to reception area, check temps of refrigerator in Arts and crafts room (KBV only) High dust all area of basement (KBV only) Sweeps floors and cleans area at the end of the day Assures that machines are shut down, lights are turned off, and all doors are locked before leaving the at the end of the shift Weekends and Holidays May be scheduled to work some weekends and holidays Qualifications and Experience: Must be eighteen (18) years of age Prefer three (3) years or more of prior experience in institutional cleaning Prefer prior experience working as a team leader   Physical Requirements: Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
