Position Summary:
Medical Record Coder is responsible for timely review and completion of all discharged patient records in order to identify an appropriate selection of ICD-10-CM/CPT codes that will accurately reflect the patients stay while in the facility. Coder is further responsible for insuring that all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected; coded data will facilitate the billing process with regards to coding and assignment of APC/MS DRG.

Position Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or College degree equivalent plus certification preferred.
TRAINING: Orientation and training under supervision of Director and Coding Manager until competency is observed.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Requires eye hand coordination with good manual dexterity.
EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years coding experience in an acute care facility.
Must be able to look at computer CRT most of the day and must be computer knowledgeable.
Must have excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
Must be organized. Requires frequent but limited contact with physicians

Required Licenses/Certifications:
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred.
