Job Description Summary:

Position Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluates, diagnoses, and provides evidenced-based treatment for patients with speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and swallowing/feeding disorders.
  • Completes patient assessment within established departmental timeframes to determine appropriate treatment plans and complete documentation independently.
  • Assesses and interprets clinical data independently to develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' functional status, with appropriate short- and long-term goals.
  • Independently performs evaluations addressing receptive/expressive language, speech production, fluency, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing.
  • Works in conjunction with Supervisor / Manager with minimal guidance to develop and implement treatment plans, including use of appropriate therapeutic modalities and equipment.
  • Applies a variety of therapeutic techniques for the rehabilitation of speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and swallowing disorders independently.
  • Modifies treatment approach based on patient response and reassesses outcome independently.
  • Independently monitors and updates patients' progress and goals, supported by timely and accurate documentation.
  • Independently documents evaluation findings, treatment sessions, and clinical recommendations clearly and accurately.
  • Documents billing charges for each evaluation and treatment session in accordance with departmental and regulatory guidelines.
  • Completes required patient-reported outcome measures at initial evaluation, recertification, and discharge in a timely manner independently per departmental standards.
  • Attends and actively participates in patient care staffings, team huddles, conferences, and other related meetings, which pertain to speech-language pathology patients.
  • Independently identifies and escalates concerns appropriately, maintaining communication with Supervisor/ Manager/ Director regarding unusual or significant events.
  • Assists other therapists as needed and supports team collaboration.
  • Demonstrates independent clinical practice with appropriate use of mentorship for complex cases.
  • Gives at least one in-service annually to staff.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Projects.
  • Collaborates with the student supervisor to participate in the clinical education program (student program).

Qualifications

  • License/Registration/Certification

    • Current Florida State SLP License. CPR certification. ASHA Membership
  • Education

    • Graduate from Masters Degree Program from an accredited University in accordance with state licensing requirements. Successful completion of Certificate of Clinical Competency. Has taken or is willing to take postgraduate education and or clinical certifications.
  • Experience

    • A minimum of 12 months of clinical work experience (adult population preferred); working towards approved project or at least 15 CEHs per year in specialty area (Swallowing, Voice, Communication, Neuro, Pediatrics, etc).
