Position Summary

The Combo Sewer is a multi-skilled sewing associate responsible for performing flat sewing and cushion sewing operations, with the ability to sew slip covers. Leather sewing experience is preferred. This role flexes between sewing functions to support production flow while consistently delivering quality workmanship, meeting efficiency standards, and living out our Core Values in action every day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Flat Sewing Responsibilities

  • Sew flat components including panels, borders, welting, decking, and decorative seams.

  • Accurately align patterns, stripes, and plaids per specifications.

  • Maintain seam consistency, stitch quality, and material integrity.

  • Inspect finished flat-sewn parts to ensure quality standards are met.

Cushion Sewing Responsibilities

  • Sew cushion tops, bottoms, boxing, and zipper installation.

  • Ensure cushions meet size, shape, and comfort specifications.

  • Maintain zipper alignment, boxing consistency, and clean seam finishes.

  • Identify and correct sewing defects prior to passing work forward.

Slip Cover & Specialty Sewing

  • Sew slip covers with attention to fit, finish, and consistency.

  • Work with a variety of materials including woven fabrics, knits, and leather (preferred).

  • Adjust sewing techniques based on material type and product design.

General Responsibilities

  • Follow work instructions, patterns, and production specifications.

  • Meet daily production and efficiency expectations while maintaining quality.

  • Communicate material, quality, or equipment issues promptly to supervision.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.

  • Support cross-training and assist in other sewing areas as production needs require.

  • Follow all safety, attendance, and productivity policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in flat sewing and cushion sewing techniques.

  • Ability to operate industrial sewing machines (single needle, walking foot, zipper foot).

  • Strong understanding of seam construction, pattern matching, and material handling.

  • Ability to transition between sewing tasks with minimal supervision.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in an upholstered furniture or similar manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in flat sewing and cushion sewing required.

  • Slip cover sewing experience required.

  • Leather sewing experience preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, fabrics, and sewing equipment.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to handle materials safely and follow ergonomic guidelines.

  • PPE required as applicable.
