Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support elementary school students in Hickory, North Carolina.

This is a General Curriculum position serving students in an elementary school setting. The caseload consists of approximately 32 students shared between two Special Education Teachers. This position will primarily support students in grades 35, while the other teacher serves grades K2.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable providing a combination of pull-out services, resource instruction, and potentially push-in support within general education classrooms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

  • Provide specialized instruction through pull-out and resource services.

  • Potentially provide push-in support within general education classrooms.

  • Differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs.

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support student access to the curriculum.

  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development.

  • Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs.

  • Communicate effectively with families, administrators, and related service providers.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

  • Maintain compliance with state, district, and federal special education requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field required/preferred based on licensure requirements.

  • Active North Carolina Special Education/General Curriculum license required or eligibility to obtain.

  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.

  • Experience providing resource, pull-out, or inclusion services preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of IEP development, accommodations, differentiated instruction, and progress monitoring.

  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with students across multiple elementary grade levels.
