The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner exercises a high level of professional responsibility, accountability, and independent clinical judgment in the delivery of advanced nursing practice. Possesses in-depth knowledge of the care of well newborns as well as the assessment, management, and treatment of neonatal patients with specialized and complex healthcare needs.

Education and Credentials:

Required:
- Master’s degree with clinical emphasis and/or has graduated from a formal post-basic nursing education program resulting in certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current NC RN license or licensure from Nursing Compact State. Approved to perform medical acts by the joint sub-committee of the NC Board of Nursing and NC Board of Medical Examiners.Â
 - BCLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). If the BCLS certification is not from the American Heart Association (AHA), an AHA certification is required within three months of employment date.Â
 - NRP Certification.

Three years registered nurse experience, two of which have been in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Given training and on-the-job experience incumbent should be proficient in the basic aspects of the job within three months of employment date.Â
