Institutional Advancement consists of Annual Giving, Alumni Engagement and Family Engagement.
Job Description
In this position, Engagement Team Assistants will work on a variety of projects throughout the year that will help advance their interest or skill development in fundraising, event planning, data management, webpage and social media management, external communications, Microsoft Office Suite administrative support, web content management, and/or graphic design. Students will gain many skills throughout the duration of this position, such as the ability to communicate effectively, event planning experience, strategic communication, process driven outcomes and the opportunity to network. Engagement Team Assistants work directly with professionals in the Office of Institutional Advancement to support fundraising programs, Alumni and Family Engagement projects and events, communications and newsletters, direct and electronic mail production, along with various support tasks related to advancing the mission of High Point University.
Job Location/ Hours Required
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Robert’s Hall. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements. This position requires up to 8-12 hours per week, based on availability, with opportunities for 20 hours per week during special event times of the year.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparation for on-campus and regional events for alumni, families and other leadership boards.
- Design creative projects for video, print and/or digital media that may be used in email communication, social media, mailed campaigns and more.
- Support Alumni and Family Engagement, Annual Giving and other Institutional Advancement needs as related to donors and donor data.
- Perform data collection and maintenance.
- Engage with direct mail assignments and campaigns.
- Serve as staff for events during various on-campus events including: Homecoming, Family Weekends, Day for HPU, Giving Tuesday and New Student Orientations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Engagement Team Assistants are required to be available during Homecoming and support the team as assigned. Additionally, they must be willing to work a short shift during both Fall and Spring Family Weekends, assist with Day for HPU and Giving Tuesday, and other various events that may take place during the academic year. They will be given the opportunity to assist with early student arrival during Welcome Week.
Engagement Team Assistants will be in an environment where confidential information is heard, shared, accessed or provided for a task. A signed confidential information agreement must be signed prior to commencement of work. Projects often require multiple steps or approvals to bring them to completion – attention to detail and a high-level of organization is required for this position.
Desired Skills:
- Must have a minimum 2.8 overall GPA
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to finish projects in a timely fashion
- Detail orientated
- Possess problem solving skills but also willing to ask questions
- Capable of multi-tasking
- Content creation skills (graphic design, digital communication) or interest
- Event planning experience or interest
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
