The role involves managing a team of piping personnel, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality control, and project timelines. The Piping Superintendent works closely with other project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of piping works for large-scale industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of piping crews, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Schedule and allocate labor resources, ensuring adequate manpower for the project.
  • Mentor, train, and evaluate piping personnel to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other construction superintendents to ensure that piping work is aligned with overall project timelines and goals.
  • Review and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications related to piping systems.
  • Manage and monitor the progress of piping installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and equipment required for piping installations.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety policies and industry regulations on site.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, toolbox talks, and safety audits to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Address and resolve any safety violations or concerns promptly, fostering a culture of safety on the job site.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards, local codes, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the quality of the piping installation, ensuring work meets project specifications and industry standards.
  • Review and approve piping installation techniques, ensuring quality control throughout the installation process.
  • Report daily progress to project management, highlighting any potential delays, risks, or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials, work progress, safety inspections, and workforce hours.
  • Address and resolve issues that arise in the field, providing timely solutions to avoid project delays.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot design or construction issues related to piping systems.
  • Ensure any changes to design or scope are documented and communicated effectively to the relevant stakeholders.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in industrial piping construction, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive experience with industrial piping systems in sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or water treatment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and piping specifications.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize under tight deadlines.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification (required).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Working Conditions

  • Location: On-site at industrial construction projects, with potential travel to multiple job sites.
  • Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift heavy materials, and stand for extended periods. Some tasks may involve working in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Work Hours: Full-time with potential for overtime, including weekends, depending on project needs.
