Job Description: Technician (Technical Services Group)

Position Summary

Air Power, Inc. is seeking an experienced full-time Technician to pre-assemble and test equipment, travel to customer sites, install equipment and work diligently to maintain the established timeline. Air Power technicians often work remotely without direct supervision but with the support of an experienced team behind them. To be successful you must be capable of working independently as well as part of a high performing team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and Commission Industrial Systems: Preassemble, test, and troubleshoot projects in our shop, then travel to customer sites to install and configure equipment. Work may include: fluid transfer systems, liquid and powder coating lines, curing ovens, material handling setups, overhead rail systems, and robotics.
  • Get Equipment Running Right the First Time: Interpret drawings and schematics, validate BOMs with engineering, and make sure every system is fully tested and ready for production before it leaves the shop.
  • Work Safe and Smart: Follow rigorous safety protocols in industrial environments, including proper handling of coatings and chemicals, while meeting OSHA and customer standards. We take safety seriously; your well-being comes first.
  • Keep Projects on Track: Provide clear progress updates during installations and share lessons learned to help the team improve.
  • Handle the Details: Accurately track your time, expenses, and inventory so projects stay organized and profitable.
  • Team Up and Train Others: Collaborate daily with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians. Once equipment is installed, provide training to customers on basic operation and maintenance so they can run smoothly.
  • Own the Full Cycle: From shop prep to on-site startup, you'll see your work come to life in manufacturing plants across the region.

Qualifications:

We're looking for experienced trades professionals who take pride in building things that work. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Hands-On Experience: 2–3 years installing, maintaining, or repairing industrial equipment. Experience with fluid transfer, material handling, coating systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, or electrical controls is a strong plus — but solid mechanical aptitude and a strong trades background matter most.
  • Technical Skills You Already Use:
    • Reading and working from technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
    • Troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems common in industrial machinery.
    • Proficiency with real shop and field tools: hammer drills, band saws, angle grinders, reciprocating saws, drill/drivers, plus operating scissor lifts, forklifts, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Physical Capability: Able to lift up to 100 lbs., work at heights, and handle confined spaces. Comfortable wearing full PPE and working in manufacturing environments with noise, chemicals, and heat from curing ovens.
  • Mindset & Work Style: Strong problem-solving skills — you enjoy figuring things out when something doesn't go as planned. Detail-oriented, reliable communicator, and able to work independently or as part of a crew. Pride in doing quality work that customers can count on.
  • Availability: Willing to travel to customers’ sites (with overnight stays as needed) and work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends to meet project deadlines.

Bonus if you have:

  • Journeyman-level experience, millwright background, controls or robotics exposure, or previous work in coating/finishing, assembly automation, or heavy industrial settings.
  • Experience in skilled trades especially HVAC, plumbing or industrial electrical fields

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in industrial settings, including manufacturing plants, warehouses, and production facilities.
  • Exposure to loud noises, chemicals (e.g., liquid and powder coatings), and high temperatures (e.g., curing ovens).
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends to meet project deadlines.

Benefits:

  • Health, dental, vision and disability insurance
  • 401K with contribution matching program
  • Profit sharing
  • Paid PTO & Holidays
  • Company provided tools/equipment
