The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment that fosters critical analysis, reasoned argument, and the free exchange of ideas and equips students with the doctrinal knowledge, practical skills, and professional values needed for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be well-suited to work in a collegial and student-oriented culture.
The selected candidate will be expected to teach at least one for-credit bar readiness course each semester, to lead the portions of new student orientation focused on academic success, to meet one-on-one with students for academic and bar success coaching, and to teach workshops that help students understand learning techniques and strategies important for academic success in law school and success on the bar examination. Responsibilities may also include overseeing a pre-orientation summer academic success program for certain incoming students.
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This position is non-tenure; however, if the selected candidate is promoted to full Clinical Professor of Law, the candidate will have “a form of security of position reasonably similar to tenure, and non-compensatory perquisites reasonably similar to those provided other full-time faculty members,” in accordance with American Bar Association Standard 405(c). The anticipated start date for the position is June 2, 2026, or sooner.
The Kahn School of Law is one of the most recent graduate schools begun by High Point University, an innovative liberal arts institution with 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Law is currently seeking ABA provisional approval in conformity with ABA Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Â Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school
Certifications/Licensure:
- Successful completion of the bar exam in at least one U.S. state
Experience and Training:
- At least three (3) years of experience in law school academic support and/or bar preparation programming
- Demonstrated interest in teaching and student mentorship and in creating an inspiring, welcoming, and dynamic learning environment for all students
- Exemplary academic record
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Willingness to contribute actively to the mission, vision, and objectives of the School and University
- Active engagement in professional organizations related to legal education and/or the legal profession, such as discipline-specific organizations and bar associations
- Record of publications and presentations that focus on law school academic success and bar examination success
