The Department of Criminal Justice at High Point University invites applications for a faculty position for the 2026-2027 academic year, at the rank of visiting assistant professor (preferred), with part-time being possible. A search for a full-time position will be launched during the academic year, and visiting faculty, with interest, are invited to apply. The position begins in August of 2026 and candidates with a master’s degree in criminal justice, a J.D., or a closely related field and applicable field experience will be strongly considered. A PhD in criminal justice and J.D. or a closely related field is preferred.

Scheduled courses for fall 2026 mainly revolve around criminal law and mock trial. Ability to teach various law related courses is required. Ability to teach violent crime, intro to criminal justice, and help with international security courses is desired but not required. Duties include teaching three or four courses per semester (depending on rank and credentials) and performing departmental service, as part of a close and vital faculty team. The University seeks applicants who are committed to education as an experiential and life-enhancing process. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Master’s in criminal justice or closely related field and experience
  • J.D. in criminal justice or closely related field and experience
  • Ph. D. in criminal justice or closely related field preferred; ABD welcome

Experience and Training

  • Prefer prior teaching experience, especially in the following courses: criminal law, courts and trials, crime, law & national security, mock trial, criminal evidence, and international criminal justice
  • Ability to teach violent crime or into to the justice system is beneficial but not required

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Knowledge of the above course subjects

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Teach three or four courses per semester depending on qualifications and rank and perform departmental service.   

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Report to Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, the Dean of the School of the Douglas S. Witcher School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, and to the Provost of the University.
