Job Description
The Chapel Outreach Coordinator assists the Chapel and Religious Life Office by increasing the connection between weekly Chapel (and/or HPU Sunday) and the HPU Community. Coordinators are charged with building relationships with interested students, enhancing the connection of the weekly Chapel community, and broadening its social networks. Serving as a resource to meaningful opportunities, the Chapel Outreach Coordinators strive to build Christian community through their relationships.
Job Location/ Hours Required
The candidate will perform most job duties in the Chapel Office, Hayworth Chapel, or on locations of open houses. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires between 5-10 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Staff Orientations and Open Houses
- Outreach to interested prospective students, incoming students, and all students interested in Chapel programming
- Build relationships
- Connect students to Weekly Chapel and/or HPU Sunday as the central witnesses to Christian worship on HPU’s campus.
- Create meaningful fellowship opportunities
- Organizing, reporting, and archiving (database) necessary information from visits
- Updating and editing a Student Employee Operations Manual with step-by-step instructions based on your role and weekly tasks
- Other duties as assigned
Expectations
- Attend weekly chapel services and/or HPU Sunday
- Wear business casual professional dress during work hours and any open house or orientation responsibilities
- Represent CRL as well as develop, market, and enhance Chapel and Religious Life’s relationships on campus
- Serve as a liaison between other campus ministries, Greek life, and/or other student organizations and offices/departments, as needed
- Report back information gathered in a clear outline to present to CRL staff
- Work independently, as a partner, and work together with the Manager of Chapel Programs, Minister to the University, and other Student Employees of the Office of Chapel and Religious Life
- Work with the Board of Stewards on several projects
- Serve at a limited capacity as an Office Assistant, when needed
- Balance working with their academic responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Outreach Coordinators plan initiatives that have the dual purpose of attracting students and advancing the Chapel mission of increasing belonging, helping students become who they are called to be and behold God’s presence. Outreach Coordinators will meet interested students and follow-up with them in an authentic, comfortable, and open way. The coordinators will strive to understand students' interests, passions, and aspirations, and connect them to Chapel and Religious Life opportunities that the students may find meaningful and engaging.
Chapel Coordinators take direction from the Manager of Chapel Programs and the Minister to the University to communicate with the chapel community, student organizations, and students at High Point University. Tasks in maintaining outreach and creating support and partnership between the student body and Chapel and Religious Life will vary. Â
