Department Description

The David R. Hayworth School of Arts and Design (SOAD) offer a wide variety of collaborative, hands on learning opportunities for students. The front of house staff will assist SOAD in successfully running the front of house for public events such as gallery openings, performances, open houses, Creative Arts fellows events, etc. In this role, front of house staff will primarily report to the Front of House Manager as they run Theater & Dance, and Music Front of House. But they may also receive communication from SOAD Administrative Assistant or Publicity Manager about events in need of staff.

Job Description

Students will serve as ushers and box office at SOAD events and in the event the Production Manager cannot be at a performance serve as House Manager also. These roles include, seating guests, ensuring guests have tickets, managing ticket “sales”, ensuring house is clean, and helping show to run successfully.

Job Location/ Hours Required

Many of the time students will report to either the Pauline Theater in Hayworth Fine Arts Center or the Black Box, also known as the Empty Space Theater. Occasionally shows will happen in other locations on campus and in those cases, students will be notified ahead of time. This position requires approximately 30 hours per semester including evenings and weekends during performances.

Responsibilities:

  • Usher for productions                           
  • Ensure venue is clean before and after performance
  • Run box office                                         
  • Serve as House Manager as needed
  • Other duties as necessary for individual productions

Required Qualifications:

Students must be welcoming and gracious to visitors, Faculty and other FOH Staff. The ability to adapt to quickly changing situations is a plus. Students must be organized and have good time management.
