Join our Campus Recreation team as a Fitness Coordinator and help shape a welcoming and engaging fitness experience for the university community.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional looking to grow their leadership, programming, and management experience in collegiate recreation. You’ll oversee dynamic fitness programs, supervise and mentor student staff, and play a key role in promoting health and well-being across campus.

As the Fitness Coordinator, you will lead all aspects of Campus Recreation fitness programming, including:

  • Group Fitness

  • Personal Training

  • Fitness Equipment Operations

  • Student Staff Development & Supervision

You will work closely with students, professional staff, and campus partners to create programs and experiences that support student success, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:


Lead & Develop Student Staff

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and mentor a team of 25+ student and contract employees including fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness assistants

  • Create a fun, positive, and professional work environment

  • Conduct staff trainings and professional development opportunities each semester

  • Supervise and mentor a Fitness Graduate Assistant


Coordinate Fitness Programs

  • Plan and manage a diverse schedule of group fitness classes each semester

  • Support fitness offerings for all experience and ability levels

  • Oversee personal training operations and client assignments

  • Help create engaging wellness initiatives and participant incentive programs


Create an Exceptional Participant Experience

  • Interact daily with participants and staff to foster an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere

  • Ensure programs run smoothly and safely

  • Assist with teaching or covering classes when needed


Manage Fitness Operations

  • Maintain fitness equipment and coordinate repairs

  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and revenue generation

  • Track participation data and assess program effectiveness

  • Collaborate on marketing efforts including social media, promotions, and events

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Student Affairs, Exercise Science, or a related field

  • Experience working in fitness, recreation, wellness, or student programming environments

  • Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising others

  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness and Personal Training certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NETA, etc.)


Preferred

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification

  • Experience in collegiate recreation

  • Certifications or experience in:

    • Yoga and/or Pilates

    • Indoor Cycling

    • Zumba

    • Nutrition Coaching

(Equivalent experience and a willingness to obtain additional certifications may also be considered.)
