Under supervision of the Fire Captain, Firefighter accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property. Participates in the combating, extinguishing and prevention of fires as well as providing emergency medical care, rescue and protection of individuals from hazardous environments. Maintains fire station, grounds, and equipment, participates in fire prevention inspection, fire prevention, and suppression training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESĀ 

Ā 

1. Provides courteous andĀ expeditiousĀ customer service toĀ team members, the generalĀ publicĀ and Tribal Citizens whileĀ maintainingĀ confidential information.Ā Ā 

2. Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardousĀ materialsĀ situationsĀ and other emergency/non-emergency calls to protect life and property endangered.Ā Ā 

3. Performs all firefighter duties; lays and connects hoses; directs water streams in the control and extinguishing of fires in structures,Ā brushĀ and grass; uses forcible entry tools, bars, hooks, ladders,Ā extinguishersĀ and other equipment.Ā Ā 

4. Raises and climbs ladders; ventilates structures;Ā accomplishesĀ salvage operations.Ā Ā 

5. Administers emergency medical care to treat patients.Ā 

6. Operates a two-way radio to communicate with the communications center.Ā Ā 

7. Participates in fire prevention programs and inspections to enforce fire prevention codes and ordinances.Ā 

8. Works 48-Hour shifts andĀ overtime;Ā may be recalled or held on duty according to the response needs of the Fire Department.Ā 

9. Operates anĀ emergency responseĀ vehicleĀ observingĀ legal and defensive driving practicesĀ Ā 

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSĀ Ā

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONSĀ

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you mayĀ be requiredĀ to obtain andĀ maintainĀ a gaming license.Ā 

  • ​​Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required. ​

  • Current EMT-I (Must be valid inĀ StateĀ of California).Ā 

  • Completion of California State Fire MarshalĀ Firefighter IĀ Academy or California State Fire MarshalĀ Firefighter IĀ Certificate.Ā 

  • Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent.Ā 

  • Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational (CSTI or equivalent).Ā 

  • ICS 100-Introduction to ICS, ICS 200-Basic ICS.Ā 

  • IS 700 NIMS: An Introduction.Ā 

  • MustĀ furnishĀ uponĀ initialĀ employment with San Manuel Fire Department, proof of successful completion of any California recognized physical ability test (Biddle, CPAT, or any other recognized PAT) within the last twelve (12) months).Ā

  • PrimaryĀ work environment is in a variety of settings. Work indoors and out in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, smoke, fumes, odors, vibrations, loud noises, hazardous materials, and noxious gases.   

  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.     

  • Incumbents mayĀ be requiredĀ to work evening,Ā weekendĀ and holiday shifts.   

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.   

  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 200 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of forceĀ frequentlyĀ or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 200 pounds occasionally. Climb up and down ladders of up to 105 feet and work at considerable heights (commercial roof tops).   

  • Sedentary work: involvesĀ operatingĀ a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.   

  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.   

  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.

  • Perform strenuous and hazardous tasks under emergency conditions.

  • Detect color changes in smoke and flames.
