Job DetailsJob Location: Highlands, NC 28741Starting Pay: $18–$19 per hour Schedule: Five days per week, 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., with two regular days off Signing Bonus: $2,000—available exclusively for the Cook position at Half-Mile Farm. Receive $1,000 after 90 days and $1,000 after six months of employment. Benefits: Full benefits package and Paid Time Off Half-Mile Farm is seeking a dependable, self-sufficient Cook who enjoys managing their own kitchen space and taking pride in preparing consistently excellent food for our guests. This position focuses on preparing established breakfast and lunch menus in a calm, organized environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, managing daily kitchen preparation, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring every dish meets our quality and presentation standards. Experience as a school cook, diner cook, breakfast cook, café cook, or in a similar kitchen environment combined with the ability to provide an elevated culinary experience for our guests would be a great fit. Responsibilities Prepare and execute established breakfast and lunch menus Independently manage daily kitchen preparation and service Follow recipes, portioning guidelines, and presentation standards Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen Monitor inventory and communicate product or supply needs Properly receive, store, rotate, and label food products Follow all food-safety and sanitation requirements Accommodate guest allergies and dietary needs when required Deliver consistent, high-quality food and warm hospitality Qualifications Previous cooking experience in a school, diner, breakfast restaurant, café, hotel, or similar setting is preferred Dependable, organized, and able to work independently Comfortable managing a kitchen workspace with limited supervision Strong attention to food quality, cleanliness, timing, and presentation Able to work five days per week from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Able to stand for extended periods and lift or move up to 50 pounds
