POSITION SPECIFICS

Position Summary: The Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Mathematics is a Full-Time faculty position within the Computer Science and Mathematics program at Penn State Harrisburg. We are seeking a dedicated individual who shares our commitment to teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students, foster robust, collaborative research, and engage in service activities supporting institutional goals.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Mathematics include the following:

Teaching: The candidate will be expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate high-quality teaching ability in two or more of the pre-calculus and calculus sequence for math, computer science, science, and engineering majors, ranging from Algebra I through Calculus II (MATH 021, MATH 022, MATH 026, MATH 041, MATH 110, MATH 140, and MATH 141). The ability to teach Introductory Statistics (STAT 200) and/or other MATH/STAT courses is a plus. Faculty also will be expected to participate in recruitment and retention activities and advise undergraduate students.

Research/Scholarship/Creative Accomplishments: As teaching professors, faculty are expected to keep up to date on and incorporate appropriate pedagogical advancements into the classroom. They also may be asked to share their activities with other colleagues through participation in seminars and conferences.

Service: Faculty are expected to serve on committees at the department, school, and college level so that the mission of the college and university are advanced. Faculty are also expected to actively promote and advance the school’s steadfast commitment to education and improving the diversity of voices in STEM to their professional and the regional community of south-central Pennsylvania.

Qualifications: To be considered for the Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Mathematics, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Candidates for Assistant Teaching Professor must have a PhD degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Math Education, or closely related field obtained prior to starting the appointment period. Candidates without a Ph.D. degree will be appointed as a Lecturer.

 The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in teaching the courses listed above, which are primarily pre-major math courses taken by STEM and Business majors.
