Job Scope

The Prototyping Supervisor formulates, recommends, and supervises projects in an assigned section of a research and development area to meet the organizations needs for the improvement and cost reduction of existing products and processes, as well as the introduction of new products and processes

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage prototyping job requests for new product development, sustaining and operations
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to prototyping machinists
  • Use technical expertise to troubleshoot and develop prototypes with high complexity
  • Manage financial budget and expenditures for Prototyping team, including management of current and future capital assets
  • Develop and manage capacity models and KPIs to ensure team meets organizational objectives and meets or exceeds external vendor costs and timelines
  • Set and manage goal and performance reviews for those supervised
  • Develop and maintain a 3yr roadmap for team to align with company objectives
  • Manage and collaborate with appropriate resource to maintain and calibrate prototyping equipment

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or program certificate in machining or another related field highly preferred
  • 5+ years of prototype manual machining experience required.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a leadership role overseeing other machinists.
  • 5+ years of CNC programming using Mastercam or equivalent.
  • background in engineering or engineering support role highly preferred
  • broad knowledge of inspection and manufacturing techniques
  • ability to design/develop parts from engineering sketches, blueprints, and computer models.
  • ability to interpret gd&t signs and symbols used on drawings/blueprints.
  • the supervisor is expected to think and act independently, as well as collaboratively.
  • requires the ability to conceptualize a variety of ideas, designs and problems and the ability to communicate methods for developing ideas/designs and/or resolving problems. 
  • must have good problem-solving skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate at various levels of the organization.
  • ability to supervise and train others.
  • ability to read and speak English sufficiently to read, understand and complete all paperwork.
