The Data Center Infrastructure Technician II is an experienced technician responsible for executing and supporting all stages of the infrastructure lifecycle within data center and client environments. This role performs advanced installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting while operating with increased independence. The Data Center Technician II also supports project coordination, mentors junior technicians, and ensures adherence to quality, safety, and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Installation & Deployment
- Lead installation of data cabinets, racks, and overhead/underfloor cable tray systemsÂ
- Execute and validate copper, fiber, and console cabling to industry standardsÂ
- Rack, stack, and cable complex equipment deployments including PDUs, servers, and network gearÂ
- Configure, test, and troubleshoot serial console (conserver) accessÂ
- Interpret basic design documents, rack elevations, and cable matricesÂ
Operations & Maintenance
- Perform advanced hardware upgrades (CPU, memory, components) and system optimizationÂ
- Troubleshoot server, network, and connectivity issues with minimal supervisionÂ
- Execute and validate hardware migrations and re-cabling effortsÂ
- Review turn-up schedules and proactively identify risks or conflictsÂ
Decommissioning & End-of-Life
- Lead “rip and replace” activities for hardware and infrastructure componentsÂ
- Oversee inventory tracking and proper disposition of retired assetsÂ
- Ensure compliant data destruction and e-cycling processesÂ
- Support decommissioning of supporting infrastructure (power, cabling, etc.)Â
Support & Coordination
- Provide Tier 1–2 support for servers and network devicesÂ
- Serve as an escalation point for Technician I staffÂ
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and cross-functional teamsÂ
- Assist with onsite project execution and communicate status updates to stakeholdersÂ
Systems, Inventory & Documentation
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of ticketing systems and documentationÂ
- Process and track hardware RMAs with minimal oversightÂ
- Maintain inventory controls and contribute to audit readinessÂ
- Identify and recommend process improvementsÂ
Leadership & Development
- Mentor and train Technician I team membersÂ
- Promote adherence to standards, safety, and best practicesÂ
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiativesÂ
General Responsibilities
- Follow and reinforce company policies and proceduresÂ
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized data center environmentÂ
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and industry best practicesÂ
- Perform other duties as assignedÂ
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of IT infrastructure or data center experienceÂ
- Proven experience in installation, cabling, and hardware troubleshootingÂ
- Ability to work independently with limited supervisionÂ
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skillsÂ
- Effective time management and ability to manage multiple prioritiesÂ
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)Â
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and diagramsÂ
- Ability to meet physical demands of the roleÂ
- Valid passport
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree (AAS) or equivalent military/technical experienceÂ
- Experience with advanced test equipment (optical testers, cable certifiers, voltmeters)Â
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure (power, cooling, racks, cabling)Â
- Working knowledge of network topology and connectivity conceptsÂ
- Experience with telecom, server, or networking hardware environmentsÂ
- Familiarity with industry standards (TIA-942, BICSI, Telcordia GR-1275)Â
- OSHA and/or NFPA 70E certification or trainingÂ
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50–80 lbs regularlyÂ
- Ability to work on ladders and in confined spacesÂ
- Ability to work around electrical systems and ESD-sensitive equipmentÂ
- Ability to perform physical activities including bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pullingÂ
