Job Description: Lab Assistant, Welding

Department: Student Learning & Success

Reports To: Welding Instructor                                                                                                        

Pay Classification: (PT) $15-$25/hour 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt                                                                                                                         

Job Summary: Assists in the teaching and facilitation of welding labs. Supports the instructors and Welding Program Coordinator in maintaining the welding labs on both the Hill County and Johnson County campuses. The assistant will help instructors prepare the instructional area by setting up necessary equipment and may assist the instructor in the classroom or lab environment.

Minimum Required

Education:                                       High School diploma or equivalent.

                                                          Preferred: Associate degree and industry certifications.  

Minimum Required 

Experience:                                      Some work experience in the welding field.

Core Duties and 

Required Knowledge:                   Working knowledge of the tools and terminology used in the welding industry. 

Assist instructors in the classroom/lab. 

Acts as a resource for instructional and curricular issues.

Sets up and maintains work area, shops, labs, and/or equipment in safe and sound condition.

Maintains the inventory of consumables. 

Responsible for the labeling, distribution, tracking, collection, and proper placement of tools used by students.

Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of the tools used for the welding program. 

Working knowledge of Hill College vision, mission, values, and Code of Conduct.

                                                   Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hill College.

Other Information:                       Valid Texas Driver’s License

                                                          Evening hours may be required depending upon instructional schedule. 

                                                  Security-sensitive position

Physical Requirements:               Medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The use of arm and or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for sedentary work.

                                                          Ability to work in a hot environment for the duration of scheduled lab time.
