Cox FleetĀ is currently hiring aĀ Shop Paint Tech IIĀ to join our Field Maintenance Team to supportĀ futureĀ growth of the Company. This is an on-siteĀ roleĀ and we do not provide emergency road services. If you are looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk to you!Ā Sr Shop Paint Technician willĀ be responsible forĀ formulating, mixing, and applying properly mixed and dispensed automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assemblies, using spray-painting equipment, power tools, and other duties as assigned such as minor body repairs.Ā Ā The Sr Shop Paint Technician can perform more advanced refinishing procedures such as multi-stage systems, two tone, and stripes. The Sr Shop Paint TechnicianĀ assistsĀ Shop Paint Technician I and II with refinishing and continues to learnĀ additionalĀ advanced refinishing skills.Ā Ā Heavily reliedĀ upon forĀ troubleshooting including color match and paint imperfections.Ā Ā A successful Sr Shop Paint TechnicianĀ complies withĀ all company policies and achievesĀ high levelĀ performance metrics.Ā 

Ā Primary Duties/Key ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Perform adjustments and intermediateĀ repairĀ various typesĀ of truck and trailer equipment.Ā 

  • IdentifyĀ problems,Ā determineĀ accuracy and relevance of information,Ā usingĀ sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations.Ā Ā 

  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as computers and pressure gauges.Ā 

  • Assist Shop Paint Technician I & II with refinish troubleshooting.Ā 

  • Perform advanced refinish troubleshooting and triage of complicated refinishing by Shop Paint Technicians I & II.Ā Ā 

  • Formulate and apply mixed and dispensed automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assembliesĀ in accordance withĀ applicable standards and procedures.Ā Ā 

  • Mix only the amount of refinish products (primer, base and clear)Ā requiredĀ to cover repair/refinish area and limit waste, using paint suppliers ā€œmix-management systemā€.Ā 

  • Update all paint supplier color, technical data and MSDS material as received.Ā 

  • Assure all refinish products are properly formulated to meet color match and finish texture expectations,Ā utilizingĀ all tools and techniques provided by paintĀ suppliersĀ technical support system (i.e., TDS, color match system, etc.).Ā 

  • Inspect refinish products to be used for proper formulation to meet color match and finish texture standardsĀ 

  • MaintainĀ a high levelĀ of productivity and be able to work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.Ā 

  • Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to discuss RO findings notes.Ā 

  • Perform minor adjustments and body repairs onĀ various typesĀ of truck and trailer equipment.Ā Ā 

  • Apply, mix, and dispense automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assembliesĀ in accordance withĀ applicable standards and procedures.Ā Ā 

  • InspectĀ the conditionĀ of panels to be painted for any subtle defects in repair, prepping or masking;Ā referĀ any issues discovered to supervisor.Ā Ā 

  • WorkĀ with a high degree of independence.Ā 

  • Clean andĀ maintainĀ all paint formulation and spray application equipment andĀ maintainĀ paint and storage areasĀ 

  • IdentifyĀ problems,Ā determineĀ accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.Ā 

  • Work withĀ ShopĀ Manager to assess customer needs,Ā provideĀ information orĀ assistance,Ā resolvingĀ their problems, orĀ satisfyingĀ their expectations.Ā 

  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.Ā 

  • Support Shop PaintĀ Technician IĀ in obtaining correct materials for each job.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Ensure adequate supply ofĀ refinishedĀ products to meet production requirementsĀ

Education/QualificationsĀ 

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as anyĀ levelĀ degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in a related field.Ā Ā 

  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.Ā 

  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.Ā Ā 

  • This position follows regulations issued by the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Candidate must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.Ā Ā 

  • A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) monthsĀ remainingĀ until itsĀ expirationĀ may beĀ submittedĀ inĀ leuĀ of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months orĀ less ofĀ validityĀ remaining, a DOT physical will beĀ required.Ā 

  • Due to interstate operatingĀ authorityĀ commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.Ā Ā 

  • ASE B2 (Painting and Refinishing) certificationĀ 

  • ASE B3 (Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair) certificationĀ 

  • ASE B5 (Mechanical and Electrical) certificationĀ

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience asĀ PaintĀ Technician on medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair or equivalent combination of technical education/certifications/skill/experiences.Ā 

  • Associate's Degree, BA/BS or Technical certification + up toĀ 2 yearĀ experienceĀ 

  • 5 years of equivalent experience in a similar capacity Technician role.Ā
