Lifeguard- Ledge Pool

The Lifeguard 1 monitors aquatic activities at Cleveland Metroparks Ledge Pool location to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies. This position enforces rules and regulations to prevent injuries and increases guest safety by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.

1. Monitors activities in and near the water through patron surveillance within designated guarded swim areas.
2. Rescues distressed persons using rescue techniques and equipment.
3. Examines injured persons and administers first aid, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment.
4. Contacts emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury.
5. Completes general facility cleaning duties.
6. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
7. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public.
8. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
9. May instruct or assist with instructing swimming classes.

• Candidates must be certified or become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding r.24. If not certified, training is available through Cleveland Metroparks in May.
• To work at a waterfront location, candidates must pass a waterfront lifeguard training module, conducted in-house by Cleveland Metroparks.
• Lifeguard Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old by first date of employment.
• Candidates are subject to fingerprinting and a background check.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
• Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
• Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Work Schedule: Mid-May through August, including holidays and weekends. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Uniform: Uniforms are provided (swimsuits, T-shirts, rain jacket, sweatshirt, hat, etc.)
