Patient Services Representative (Float)

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Summary

South Shore Orthopedics is seeking a highly organized, adaptable, and customer-focused Patient Services Representative (Float) to support multiple departments throughout the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and enjoys variety in their day.

As a float team member, you will provide coverage wherever needed, including front desk operations, patient scheduling, registration, clinical support, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering outstanding service to every patient.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients with scheduling appointments.
  • Register patients, verify information, and complete check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Interview patients and obtain accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures.
  • Room patients and provide administrative support to clinical staff as needed.
  • Coordinate with providers and multiple departments to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate patient records within the electronic medical record system.
  • Follow established scheduling protocols and business process documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support practice operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Professional, patient-focused attitude with excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with patients, providers, coworkers, and third-party payers.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, typing, and computer work.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and staff throughout the day.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, interruptions, and time-sensitive tasks.
  • Occasional exposure to healthcare environments where bodily fluids may be present.
  • Noise level is generally low to moderate.
