JOB SUMMARY
The Tennis Shop Manager plays a central role in delivering a highly personalized, relationship-driven tennis experience for Members at Jupiter Island Club. This position serves as the operational and relational hub of the tennis program and is responsible for coordinating daily play, managing lesson and clinic scheduling, and ensuring every interaction reflects the Club’s standard of understated elegance.
Reporting directly to the Head Tennis Professional, the Tennis Shop Manager works in close partnership with the professional staff to align Member preferences, playing levels, and social dynamics. While retail operations are a component of the role, the core focus is on Member engagement, organization, and the seamless execution of the tennis experience.
This is a full-time seasonal position (November through May) best suited for an individual who thrives in a high-touch service environment, demonstrates strong ownership and accountability, and is motivated by Member satisfaction and program success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
Member Experience & Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for tennis Members, developing strong relationships and deep familiarity with individual preferences, playing levels, and social dynamics
- Anticipate Member needs and proactively coordinate play opportunities that enhance engagement and satisfaction
- Deliver a “yes, and” service approach, ensuring Members feel heard and valued, while appropriately managing expectations and maintaining operational consistency
- Address scheduling changes, requests, and concerns with professionalism, responsiveness, and sound judgment
Game Coordination & Program Execution
- Plan and organize daily tennis games, typically one day in advance, balancing skill levels, relationships, and Member preferences
- Manage all lesson and clinic bookings, ensuring alignment with Member needs and professional staff availability
- Maintain a comprehensive and highly organized scheduling system (currently paper-based), tracking all lessons, clinics, and participation
- Adjust programming and scheduling to meet seasonal demand, including peak holiday periods
- Support the execution and promotion of tennis events, clinics, and seasonal programming
Professional Staff Coordination
- Partner closely with the Director of Tennis and Assistant Professionals to align schedules, lesson assignments, and Member placements
- Develop a strong understanding of each professional’s strengths, style, and Member fit in order to make thoughtful lesson recommendations
- Communicate effectively with the professional team regarding daily schedules, changes, and Member needs
Operations & Administrative Management
- Own and maintain the daily tennis book, ensuring accuracy, organization, and clarity across all scheduling activities
- Process all lesson charges and retail transactions in a timely and accurate manner using the Club’s POS system (Northstar)
- Manage high-volume scheduling adjustments, particularly during peak periods, with consistency and attention to detail
- Demonstrate comfort with evolving systems and openness to process improvements and modernization over time
Retail Execution
- Oversee the day-to-day presentation and operation of the tennis shop, ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting retail environment
- Execute merchandise sales and assist Members with product selection
- Support inventory management, including stock organization and coordination with vendors and the Club’s merchandising support function
- Contribute input on product selection based on Member preferences and trends
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to handle last-minute changes in a composed and effective manner
- Self-motivated with a high degree of personal accountability and ownership
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, Member-facing environment where priorities shift daily
Preferred
- Experience in a private club, hospitality, or high-touch service environment
- Exposure to tennis operations, racquet sports, or similar programming environments
- Retail or point-of-sale experience
- Familiarity with scheduling systems and willingness to adopt new technologies over time
- Interest in developing a multi-season commitment to the role
