Role summary:
The Principal Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving cloud-native architecture and distributed system solutions. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, integrating AI/ML technologies to build intelligent applications that serve millions. Providing strategic technical leadership and mentorship, the position ensures alignment with long-term roadmaps and promotes engineering excellence. Collaborating across teams, the engineer translates complex business needs into actionable technical requirements, fostering innovation and continuous improvement while maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and operational efficiency.

At Walmart Connect, the AdTech Engineering team develops advanced platforms and AI-driven solutions that integrate advertising, commerce, and data. The team addresses complex challenges such as automated media generation and next-generation AI systems to enhance operations for advertisers, sellers, and internal partners. Leveraging extensive first-party data and an AI-first approach, the team pioneers intelligent agents and autonomous workflows that shape retail advertising’s future. Engineers contribute to impactful products that drive measurable outcomes, accelerate growth, and influence millions of customer journeys daily through innovative technical solutions and collaboration.
What you'll do:
- Lead platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and cloud-native architectures aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Build and deploy scalable, production Agentic AI solutions to automate complex workflows across business-critical applications.
- Architect and integrate AI/ML-enhanced applications to support millions of users, applying model-driven design and advanced development tools.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural decisions and promoting engineering excellence and innovation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements, measure success metrics, and ensure solutions meet quality and business objectives.
- Foster continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and product performance.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable and reliable cloud-native architectures.
- Experience developing scalable Agentic AI solutions and deep technical understanding of  agentic patterns, too/API usage, guardrails and eval pipelines.
- Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Expertise in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to make informed architectural decisions and trade-offs.
- Demonstrated skills in mentorship, fostering engineering excellence and guiding technical teams.
- Proficiency in applying model-driven design and cloud computing best practices.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional stakeholders.
