Job Description

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking part-time Nursery Technicians with a primary duty of assisting other nursery staff with duties related to growing and harvesting conservation seedlings.

These positions are located in Goldsby, Oklahoma and Idabel, Oklahoma.

Current Wages:

$14 to $15.00 per hour based on experience.

General Comments:

The Nursery Technician is a temporary position that may work up to 40 hours per week depending on the season and tasks needed. The term of employment is up to 999 hours per calendar year. The term of employment is also dependent upon weather conditions, statutory requirements, time of year, scheduled work load, and other climatic and biological factors.

Examples of tasks performed:

  • Assisting with planting and harvesting seedlings

  • Collecting and preparing seed for planting

  • Weeding around seedlings in the field

  • Maintaining irrigation lines

  • Maintaining fields with a mower, brush hog and weed eater

  • Cleaning and maintaining buildings and trucks

  • Processing seedlings during harvest season

  • Counting/tying seedlings in bundles to prepare for shipping

  • Day-to-day general operating procedures

Physical demands and conditions under which the work is performed:

The Nursery Technician is expected to work under all types of weather conditions. Various types of motor skills are used in walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and lifting to carry out assigned tasks. Movement over uneven ground and through all types of topographic conditions is necessary. The Nursery Technician must be physically able to work in extreme weather conditions. Some tasks are performed around farm machinery and other specialized equipment. This position requires the ability to complete all of the physical demands of the tasks assigned.

Education and Experience:

The Nursery Technician is an entry-level position that does not require any prior job experience.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver License may be required for some Nursery Technician positions.
