Purpose:

The Front-Line Supervisor will provide direct supervision, leadership, training and coordination of activities for the assigned shift. He/she will manage team in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

  • Direct the enforcement of safety practices and ensure that adequate controls exist to prevent injuries and accidents. Review safety performance and provide corrective actions as appropriate. Work closely with the HSE Engineer and Safety Committee to accomplish a safe working environment.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through active promotion of MCA Quality Policy. Assure that department is following established Policies/Procedures/Work Instructions/etc. Assure that all prescribed records and documents are properly completed and maintained. Review performance and provide corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Accomplish 100% on-time delivery through effective planning, prioritizing, and coordinating. 
  •  Investigate delivery failures to determine root cause and provide effective corrective action.
  • Develop long-range planning initiatives for the team; this will include continuously evaluating the teams’ resources, capacities, capabilities, expenses, etc. to meet short and long-term growth goals.
  • Work closely with the Production Control team to ensure proper production/maintenance planning. Will monitor production orders and schedules.
  • Coordinate support activities to accomplish plant goals.
  • Maintain effective communications with all teams and management.
  • Work closely with team to coordinate resources and prioritize tasks. This is to be accomplished with optimum utilization of resources while meeting customer needs and expectations. 
  • Develop, review, and revise standard operational and working practices and observe employees to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and analyze production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Conduct various skills assessments and performance evaluations for direct reports. Establish employee goals. Assure consistency and progress is accomplished among entire team.
  • Develop/strengthen team through proper training, coaching, and guidance.
  • Manage and execute 5S and housekeeping activities to achieve and maintain excellence.
  • Ensure participation by all team members in continual improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Assist in planning the operating budget for all areas of accountability.
  • Work to build effective rapport with all internal and external groups in order to promote smooth and efficient business.
  • Foster a proper working environment through fair, consistent, and respectful treatment of employees. Resolve employee relation issues through effective remediation techniques. Utilize Human Resources team and/or respective team manager to assist in solving difficult work-related issues.
  • Provide leadership to team:
    • Work to develop positive attitude on shop floor.
    • Work to foster a culture of ownership, passion, loyalty, and a sense of urgency by MAC employees.
    • Instill mindset of teamwork and cooperation among team members of all areas.
    • Lead by example.


Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

  • 2-year degree in management field. Degree preferred, but not required. Comparable industrial experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of five (2) years of experience as a front-line supervisor in a vertical molding, ductile iron foundry. 
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in operation of sand system equipment, sand testing (sand properties).
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in operation of vertical molding machines.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operation of cold-box core-making process.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operation of relative iron pouring systems.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting of related equipment is a plus. (Siemens. Allen Bradley)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic helpful) and work instructions.
  • Good math skills.
  • Solid computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills utilizing primary problem-solving techniques (i.e. Pareto Charts, Fishbone Diagrams).


Legal Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to federal labor law requirements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.


Supervisory Responsibility:

The Front-Line Supervisor provides management / supervision to their team on the assigned shift. In addition, the Front-Line Supervisor has the authority to interrupt production, to prevent manufacturing of defective product. 


Working Conditions:

  • Frequent working on manufacturing floor and warehouse environment
  • Occasional office environment
  • Constant exposure to moving machinery and energized equipment
  • Constant requirement of PPE
  • Constant shift work, occasional weekends/OT


Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting, carrying up to 15 lbs.
  • Frequent fine motor & dexterity: gripping, pinching, tool use, keyboarding
  • Constant need to work in a warehouse environment subject to external temperatures

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation for hourly positions is determined according to standardized wage table. Benefits package includes health, dental & vision insurance, life insurance and other supplemental benefits, 401(K) plan, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
