Summary

CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity within our ag retail division supporting our Holdrege business unit. We are seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to provide EHS support to operations Nebraska and Kansas. In this role, you will collaborate with operations leaders and team members to implement and maintain the EHS programs necessary to operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and a strong commitment to interpersonal relationship building and team success are necessary.

Candidates will base out of a location within the Holdrege business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate compliance with applicable EHS related requirements (federal, state, local, and company).
  • Communicate EHS related requirements and expectations to location personnel to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.
  • Routinely visit locations in the business units to conduct facility inspections and provide EHS support to operation personnel.
  • Appropriately respond to day-to-day EHS related concerns and events in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develop and implement EHS related plans, programs, policies, and procedures as needed and appropriate.
  • Conduct effective EHS related training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct EHS related audits, workplace inspections, job safety analyses, and maintain detailed recordkeeping.
  • Conduct timely and thorough incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
  • Evaluate EHS performance metrics and collaborate with EHS and operations leadership to develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Remain current on applicable EHS related rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety & Health, EHS, or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge in environmental, health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to complete OSHA 30-hour training certification program.
  • Working knowledge of agronomy and/or grain operations.
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required, selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings to include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements and FMSCA Clearinghouse.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders and operate equipment needed to inspect facilities
  • Ability to work in dusty and adverse and changeable weather conditions

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
