Detergent Relations Specialist

Position summary

The Detergent Relations Specialist is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with Tommy's private branded detergent customers across the United States. This role serves as the primary point of contact for account visits, product support, and staff training, while also driving new business development by introducing Tommy's detergent offerings to prospective locations. The Detergent Relations Specialist collaborates cross-functionally with the Tommy's Support team and the Detergent Program Manager to ensure customer satisfaction, product quality, and continued program growth.

Position responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with all Tommy's private branded detergent customers by visiting their locations once per quarter to assist with wash quality address concerns, and staff training as it relates to detergents and Tommy’s equipment.
  • Manage all Tommy Car Wash Systems private branded detergent startups and collaborate closely with other Tommy’s startup teams.
  • Assist with the testing and implementation of new detergent products, relaying feedback to the Detergent Program Manager.
  • Assist with building out new detergent-related documentation such as SOPs, cost-per-car analyses, and internal documentation.
  • Collaborate with Tommy's Support team on issues private branded detergent customers are experiencing and provide solutions based on industry expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned; duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.

Position qualifications & candidate attributes

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in business, chemistry, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in account management, sales, or a customer-facing role; experience in the car wash or detergent/chemical industry a plus
  • Knowledge of car wash chemistry, detergent products, or wash quality principles preferred
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a travel-heavy schedule
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the United States on a regular basis
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and effective time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Collaborative team player with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • High level of integrity and professionalism in all customer and internal interactions
  • Views customer care as a high priority; exhibits a positive, can-do attitude
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to identify gaps and fill them

Work environment and physical demands

  • This job operates in a professional office environment in addition to traveling to and from customer locations throughout the United States. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and operates. This role requires frequent travel, including driving and flying to customer sites.

    To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, team member must be able to:

    • Work and commute in all weather conditions
    • Travel extensively throughout the United States, including overnight travel
    • Able to effectively communicate, listen, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself and exchange information
    • Able to walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, climb steps, reach with hands, use hands to fingers
    • Work in a fast-paced environment where they will often be multitasking
    • Move about inside the office as well as customer wash facilities
    • Operate standard office equipment
    • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as keyboard, copy machine and printer
    • Remain in a stationary position 50%+ of the time, alternating between sitting and standing
    • Drive between company locations and/or vendors or suppliers as needed while on job
