Oversight for coordinating, responding to, and processing requests for the release of protected health information. Provides resident expertise and training on the authorization and consent requirements for release of protected health information. Coordinates, responds, and processes payer audit requests. Monitors the ECW patient portal hotline and assists customers with the patient portals.

Minimum Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:
Associates degree in Health Information Management with RHIT

Employment Type: Full Time (80 hours every two weeks)

Weekly Scheduled Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-5:30pm

Weekend Frequency: N/A

Wage Range: $18.26-$27.39 per hour

Oversight for release of protected health information.

  • Reviews requests for release of protected health information from internal and external customers including but not limited to attorneys, patients, physicians, staff, law enforcement and insurance companies and determines appropriateness of request and responds accordingly in a timely, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for staying current on local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provides and facilitates educational sessions for internal and external staff regarding release of information in a consistent, timely and ongoing manner.
  • Seeks to provide customers with requested information in a timely manner while in accordance with laws, regulations and P&Ps governing release of Protected Health Information prioritizing urgent requests and setting up appointments as necessary.
  • Identifies and communicates as appropriate with Risk Management and Patient Relations potential areas of risk in a timely and efficient manner.

Organizational point of contact for all EHR portal inquiries

  • Stays current with patient portal functionality.
  • Assists customers with portal related questions as needed.
  • Educates staff on portal changes and updates.
  • Works with patient and staff regarding proxy inquiries.
  • Oversight for ECW portal hotline.

Responsible for medical records functions             

  • Responsible for phone coverage as assigned.
  • Sort and distributes incoming mail.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and volunteers for special projects.
  • Participates in cross training and offers up suggestions, improvements and looks for ways to gain efficiencies.
  • Researches and participates as appropriate with management regarding areas of improvement with technology, upgrades, and other suggestions.

Oversight of Access/HIM

  • Logs requests for release of information into Access HIM.
  • Maintains oversight of correspondence log.
  • Ensuring completion and timeliness of requests.
  • Identifies and brings areas of concern to management.

Payer audits

  • Oversight of payer audit record requests.
  • Knowledgeable in accessing payer portals for uploading records.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of payer audit requirements.
